Day of the Dead altar
On November 2nd, Sigma Delta Pi put up an altar dedicated to all the gun violence victims in 2017. The altar was among the many on Kellogg plaza during the Day of the Dead celebration. The Day of the Dead altar represents the sharing of food with those who have departed and are still remembered by the living. Our altar had cempasuchil flowers, candles, and bread that we shared with our visitors.

Peruvian Costumes, Dances, and Folklore Expo
On October 23rd, Sigma Delta Pi hosted an event in which attendees experienced the Peruvian Culture like never before. At 5:30 pm, we opened the doors of University Hall 101 and received students ready to know more about Peru. The event opened with a video of the 2015 Pan American Games Closing, which prepared the audience for the music, dances and cultural artifacts to be presented.
President Diego Lecca, dressed as a Chalan, a Marinera dancer, presented different objects and musical instruments from Peru, such as the cajon, the charango, and the zampoña (panflute).
A llama fur tapestry was passed around by treasurer Ramiro Huerta
The expo presented different costumes from the Peruvian region. Here, two volunteers sport a Coya costume. The Coya was the Incan emperor's wife, the most powerful woman in the Inca empire.
Afterwards, attendees saw the Saya costume. The Saya is a dance from the Altiplanic region with African and Andean influences.
Then, we had the Festejo costumes and dance. Festejo is an Afroperuvian dance from the coastal regions
Similar to Festejo is the Valentina costume and dance, especially known for the dance El Alcatraz.
Then, President Diego Lecca and his sister, Diana Lecca wore a Marinera Norteña costume, a dance named in honor of the Marina de Guerra del Peru (Peruvian Navy).
Sigma Delta Pi thanks everyone who helped make this cultural expo possible.
